If all goes as planned, the streets of Caledonia will be filled with two-wheeled motorized vehicles. No, windows won’t be rattling from the low rumble emitted from a large group of “Hogs” motoring around town. But hopefully residents will hear the soft, humming of scooters.
The first annual Caledonia Scooter Rally will take place during Family Fun Fest June 20. The Scooter Rally was dreamed up by Ancy Hellickson and her neighbor Jay Tollefson.
“We have a lot of folks in our neighborhood who drive scooters,” Hellickson explained. “Jay and I were talking about coming up with some type of event for all these scooter riders and decided to organize a rally. The Family Fun Fest seemed like the perfect time for it.”
The rally will begin at the city ball park with registration between 9:30 and 10 a.m. Registration is $10, or $15 if you want a T-shirt. Participants can get a map of the rally route at that time.
The rally’s first stop will be the Redwood Cafe parking lot, where riders can enjoy coffee and get acquainted. At 10:45 they will depart for Betsy’s B&B, which is located four miles east of Caledonia on County Road 249. Ice cream floats will be available.
At 11:30, the rally will motor back into Caledonia and to the back parking lot of the Caledonia Area Middle School/High School campus. There riders can enjoy a kite fly that is open for the young and young at heart. Lunch will be available and the Warrior Letterpersons Club will be conducting a car (and scooter) wash.
At 1 p.m. it’s off to Ma Cal Grove Country Club, where riders can hone their golf skills on the putting green and driving range. The Caledonia boys and girls golf teams and coaches will be on hand, to give anyone excellent advice, guaranteed to improve their game (right Boomer???)
After an hour of golf, it’s back to the city park to enjoy the softball tournament and the cool refreshments available in the beer tent.
“We’re hoping for a good turnout, and for the weather to cooperate,” Hellickson said. “It should be a lot of fun.”
