Kite Fly scheduled for Saturday, June 20

A wonderful addition to this summer’s Family Fun Fest, which will be held June 19 and 20, is the Kite Fly. The Kite Fly, which is for both kids and adults, will take place in the north parking lot behind the Caledonia Area Middle School/High School from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“The wind is this area is wonderful and there are no power lines or tree obstructions,” said Ancy Hellickson, event co-organizer. “What a better way to celebrate the outdoors with a child than to spend an hour in the sun filling the sky with colorful kites. In fact, parents, bring your children, and grandparents, bring your grandchildren.
“This year the focus will be on getting as many kites as possible up in the air to color the sky,” Hellickson continued. “Bring your own kites, or a limited number of kites will be available to borrow to fly…some regular diamond kites, a few delta kites, some figure kites and one kite from China. The kites will be lent on a first come basis. If you are looking to buy a kite and are an amateur kite flyer, the delta kite is the easiest to get up in the air because it requires less wind.”
The practice field will be divided into quadrants for safety reasons, with an area for adults only, one for adults with kids, one area for kids only, and one area for experienced kite flyers. Certificates will be given in three divisions: Caledonia’s best adult kite flyer, Caledonia’s best child kite flyer (12 and under) and Caledonia’s best parent/child team.
There will be a small kite hospital available for the repairs of injured kites with some small dowels, tape, scissors and string.
During the Kite Fly, the Warrior Letterpersons Club will be conducting a car wash and also serving lunch to raise money for their club.
There is no charge for the Kite Fly. Keith Hollatz is helping Hellickson organize this event.
