Mike Moriarty receives SSC Outstanding Service Award

Superintendent Mike Moriarty of Caledonia Public Schools received the 2009 Southeast Service Cooperative (SSC) Outstanding Service Award. The award is presented annually to a special person who has been chosen by the SSC Board because of the ways in which the individual has met the following criteria:
•How well this person exercises leadership in Service Cooperative endeavors;
•How this person advances the goals and philosophies of the Minnesota Service Cooperatives (MSC); and
•This person’s outstanding accomplishments and innovative practices in the promotion of services delivered through the Service Cooperative.
“Moriarty has been very involved in SSC during all his years as an educator and administrator in southeast Minnesota,” according to a press release issued last week. “He has actively served on the Advisory Committee since 2002. He has promoted his staff’s involvement in almost all SSC programs - special projects for teacher and student instruction, student academics, technology integration projects, and administrative support services.
“His comments and advice are practical, considerate of various perspectives, and often demonstrate out-of-the-box thinking,” the press release continued. “He willingly shares what he knows and what he has experienced to help others think through solutions (example: he explained to other superintendents how he instituted high school and post-secondary course/credit articulation through SE MN Technical College with distance learning, achieved when others were thinking it was an impossibility). His cooperative sense and innovative thinking have also benefited other cooperative organizations in this region and statewide.”
Each of the eight Service Cooperatives in MSC honor an individual each year, and this award is presented at the annual MSC Board Conference. This year’s conference is at Madden’s Resort near Brainerd, on July 15-July 17 and Moriarty and his wife will be in attendance to accept his award.
