Grant Orval Selness, 82, of Spring Grove, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa.
He was born May 6, 1927 in Spring Grove to Gustav and Gina (Augedahl)
Selness. He was a lifelong area resident, attending Grindeland country
school near Hesper, Iowa.
On Aug. 31, 1953, he married Ione Hanson at Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel.
Grant hauled milk at 15 years of age. Through the years he had worked
as a carpenter, at Argus and Mansfield Industries, and Control Data of
Spring Grove, and for Ivan Dahle.
For 15 years he mowed the Trinity Cemetery and worked as a custodian
for Trinity Lutheran Church. He served on the Trinity Cemetery Board.
Survivors include his wife of Spring Grove; two daughters, Jennifer
(Michael) Wiste, Spring Grove, and Joyce (Mark) Knutson, Caledonia; 10
grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were Aug. 17 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring
Grove with the Rev. Zane Anderson officiating. Burial was at Trinity
Lutheran Cemetery in Spring Grove.
Roble Funeral Services of Spring Grove assisted the family with arrangements.
