When attempting to win playoff games, the cause is greatly helped when
a team comes out clicking defensively. Not a snapping of the fingers
clicking, but playing together in a cohesive manner for the betterment
of the team.
“We came out clicking as our defense was just phenomenal, we totally
took them out of anything they wanted to do offensively,” said head
coach Scott Sorenson.
The Lady Warriors defeated St. Charles, 62-30 to open their 1AA East Sub-section play.
Good on both ends of the court
“On the other end we executed to almost perfection,” said
Sorenson. “I was really impressed with our ability to locate the
open person, we are doing such a great job of attacking and moving
without the ball.”
When you hold your opponent to just 10 points in the first half, you know what you are doing defensively is working.
“We went into half time with a 41-10 lead, we did not allow St. Charles
to score a point till 7:00 minutes left in the first half.”
The Warriors were spotted 26 points and when that happens it is easy to continue on towards winning the contest.
“We jumped out to a 26-0 lead and coasted from there,” said Sorenson.
The big reason for his teams’ success is their focus.
“It is just a matter of these girls seem extremely focused and the
energy level is just amazing, they are playing like a team and they
have the desire, passion and determination to win,” said the proud
coach. That should bode well for the team moving forward during the
playoffs. That and they are doing the one thing needed to win during
tournament time.
“Defense wins during tournament time and they are really getting it done so far,” said Sorenson.
Stats
Junior Libby Augedahl led all scorers with 16 points. Cassie Gran
chipped in with nine points. Laquita Becker scored eight points coming
in off the bench. Sarah Colleran scored eight points as well. Amber
Sorenson added five points and Megan King scored 11. Aly Meyer scored a
point, and both Bobbi Jo Schuttemeier and Alecia Fruechte scored
two points each.
With the win, the Warriors improve to 23-3 on the season. Information
