According to reports, Peterson was leaving The Ranch in downtown Caledonia when he tried to break up a fight outside the bar. Peterson received several blows to the head. He was hospitalized for several days, had swelling of the brain and it appears he may have sustained some permanent memory loss.

Officer assaulted
A 54-year-old woman from Iowa was charged with fourth-degree assault and placed in jail Oct. 6 for assaulting Part-time Officer Ryan Jordan. Jordan responded to a domestic disturbance call on South Hokah at 12:32 a.m. While attempting to obtain information, Jordan was assaulted by the woman. He was not injured.
Criminal sex cases
Caledonia Police Chief Kurt Zehnder reported that his department is working on more than a dozen criminal sex cases that have been reported in the past three months.
“For a community of this size, this is not normal. There is a problem here and this police department will be doing everything we can to improve the situation.”
Gas drive offs
Chief Zehnder noted his department has investigated six cases where motorists have left Caledonia gas stations without paying for the gas they pumped.
“I’m sure this has a lot to do with the economy,” Zehnder said. “This was six cases in the past week.”
Caledonia officers also conducted 11 traffic stops and 10 public assists in the past week.
