Yucatan pole shed a total loss following Oct. 12 fire

A metal pole shed containing 350 big round bales was a total loss following a fire at the Burdell Hahn farm in Yucatan Township. Firefighters from Caledonia, Houston, Spring Grove and Rushford battled the Oct. 12 blaze.
The fire was reported late morning and Caledonia firemen responded to the mutual aid call around 11:30 a.m. A pumper truck was also dispatched from the Eitzen Fire Department, which was used to pump water out of a nearby river and into tanker trucks from the other four fire departments.
It took more than 10 hours and tens of thousands of gallons of water to put out the fire. Firefighters were able to keep the blaze limited to the shed and no damage was reported to nearby out buildings or the Hahn home.
The cause of the fire is unknown. The State Fire Marshal’s office was notified.
