Technology continues to improve by leaps and bounds. It wasn’t that long ago that a road map was the way most motorists navigated through unfamiliar locales.
Many travelers, and not just the youngsters, have opted for their Blackberry and the GPS (global positioning system) program. As more and more people are utilizing this new technology, businesses and organizations are finding it advantageous to be part of this digital mapping system.
The Caledonia Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a GPS training workshop Dec. 16 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. “GPS Technology for Road Side Advertising in a Digital World” will be held at the Caledonia public Library in downtown Caledonia.
The training session will feature Bruce Schwartau, regional Extension educator of the University of Minnesota Extension Service.
The training session will include the following topics:
• How to place your business or organization on a variety of digital maps
• Understand the emerging consumer use of GPS technology in everyday activities
• Make sure the information available about your community is correct
• Learn how to maximize your organization’s digital map presence
GPS technology uses mapping to show you where you are and how to get to your destination. People can also use GPS to decide where they should go and what restaurants, shops and attractions lie ahead. This new technology provides new opportunities to market businesses and communities.
Persons interested in the workshop need to contact the Caledonia Area Chamber of Commerce by Nov. 30. If you have as laptop, please bring it. The library has 10 computers to use. It is WIFI (wireless) compatible.
