Caledonia quilter Doris Klankowski and her husband Gordon displayed this patriotic quilt Doris recently completed, which was presented to Houston County Veterans Service Officer Rob Gross for the Quilts of Valor program. Quilts of Valor is a nation-wide program, started in 2003, where wounded soldiers are given hand-made quilts that provide comfort, love and healing prayers plus pay tribute to the combat wounded. Everyone who attended the Veterans Day dinner in Caledonia on Nov. 11 signed the quilt. Doris has been involved in the Quilts of Valor program for some time and has finished quilts that have been sent to Ramstein, Germany, where many of the U.S. troops wounded in the two wars being waged in the Middle East are evacuated to. “This is just our way of thanking those brave men and women who are fighting for our freedom,” Doris noted.                Photo by Charlie Warner
