Norbert
A. Meyer, 82, of Waukon, Iowa, formerly of Dubuque, Iowa, died Monday,
Nov. 16, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon following a brief
illness.
Norbert Armin Meyer was born March 12, 1927 in La Crosse, Wis., the son
of Henry and Frieda (Beneke) Meyer. His family moved to Eitzen, Minn.
when Norbert was at a young age. He graduated from Caledonia High
School in Caledonia. Norbert served in the US Navy at the conclusion of
WW II on the USS Butler. After the service he worked as a farm hand. On
Oct. 20, 1951 he married Doris Ann Shefelbine at Dorchester Methodist
Church in Dorchester, Iowa. Norbert and Doris lived in Dubuque where he
worked for Interstate Power Company as a mechanic retiring in 1989.
Norbert was a member of the American Legion in Dubuque and the VFW in
Waukon.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Ann Meyer of 58 years, Waukon; his
children, Larry (Karen) Meyer, Dubuque; Laina (Darrell) Ford, Waukon;
and Kenneth (Theresa) Meyer, Cedar, Minn.; six grandchildren; one
great-grandchild; a brother, Merlin Meyer, Caledonia; and two
sisters-in-law, Beverly Meyer and Linda Meyer, both of Eitzen.
Norbert is preceded in death by two brothers, Irvin and Ronald Meyer and a sister-in-law, Louella Meyer.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon assisted the family with arrangements.
