Gustave
Henselin, 89, of Rochester, formerly of Stewartville, died Friday, Jan.
15, of natural causes at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, where he had
been a resident for the past two weeks.
Gustave Karl Bernhard Henselin was born in Caledonia on Dec. 7, 1920,
the son of Wilhelm and Anna (Pieper) Henselin. He was baptized Dec. 19,
1920, and confirmed on June 23, 1935, by the Rev. Jeske at St. John
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Caledonia.
Gustave served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 until Feb. 1946. Upon
returning home, his family moved to a farm near Stewartville. He
married Margery Hess on Sept. 24, 1952. They farmed for many years in
rural Stewartville and moved to Rochester in 1992.
Gustave is survived by his wife, Margery; five children: Dr. Jane
(John) Murray, the Rev. Philip (Susan) Henselin, Rebecca (Randy)
Tomfohrde, Marilyn (Roger) Tomfohrde, and Mark (Lois) Henselin; one
sister, Lillian Bisson; 25 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother; sisters Adella Sheehan,
Viola Zemmes, Doretta Schmidt, and Ethel Bolduan; and two brothers,
Herman and Wilfred Henselin.
A funeral service for Gustave will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18 at
Ascension Lutheran Church in Rochester with the Rev. Brian Kom
officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in
Rochester. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, at
Ascension Lutheran Church in Rochester. They may also call one hour
prior to the service on Monday morning at the church.
The family suggests memorials be given to Ascension Lutheran Church.
They will be used for both mission work and disaster relief.
Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville.
