Nationally known Gaelic recording artist Laura MacKenzie will be the showcase performer during Caledonia’s 14th Annual Scottish Heritage Dinner this year. The event will be held Saturday, March 29 at the Four Season’s Community Center.

According to a recent article in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, “MacKenzie plays a various selection of ancient instruments with unusual beauty and elegance, and her vocals - strong, clear, and lifting - are full of emotion as she performs a splendid repertoire.”

The La Crosse and District Pipes and Drums Corps will also be providing entertainment during the evening.

The evening will begin with the Piping of the Haggis, which is an old Scottish tradition, at 6:45. The “Ode to a Haggis,” written by the 18th century poet Robert Burns, will be read, and dinner will be served at 7:15.

The announcement of the Scot of the Year Award will be made following the dinner.

“We want everyone to come an join us for a night of good food, good friends, and great entertainment,” Scottish heritage committee member Kermit McRae said. “You don’t have to be Scottish to enjoy the rich heritage of music and dancing!”

Tickets for the event are $20 per person and must be purchased by March 24. They can be purchased at the Caledonia Area Chamber of Commerce office, Caledonia Care and Rehab, Bank of the West, Merchants Bank, or from McRae.
