Houston County Board members took some homework with them from the March 4 board meeting. They were asked to review newly drafted park rules and regulations for Wildcat Park and bring any comments or suggested revisions of the draft to the March 11 board meeting.
Wildcat Park, located on the Mississippi River just south of Brownsville, is leased by the county from the Army Corps of Engineers, and must be operated in accordance to Corps’ guidelines.
County staff worked with the Corps to establish the following campground rules, which is a summary of the in-depth draft.

•The park manager will decide any special situation defining a “camping unit.”
•Payment and registration must be made before occupying any site.
Site rentals to minors (under 18 years of age) are not allowed. Campers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
•Checkout time is 12 p.m. on the last day registered. The campsite must be cleaned prior to checkout.
•All visitors entering the park are required to register in the park office and are subject to all rules, regulations and ordinances applicable to Wildcat Park.
•Visitors must leave the campground by 11 p.m.
•Pets are allowed, however, they must be on a leash less than six feet long, are not to be left unattended, and waste must be disposed of properly.
•Campers with barking dogs will be asked to leave the park.
•Quiet time is from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
•Campfires are only allowed in the campsite fire ring. All fires must be extinguished prior to leaving the campground or retiring for the evening.
•Only approved firewood is allowed. Approved firewood is: firewood purchased from the park manager or an approved vendor, firewood that originated from within 50 miles of the campground, or kiln-dried wood such as unpainted, unstained dimension lumber or kindling that is free of any metal or foreign substance.
•The dump station is for registered campers only.
•Permits are required for exclusive use of picnic shelters and must be obtained before occupying any shelter.
The following activities
are not permitted:
