William A. Flannery Jr., 70 of Hokah, Minn., passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 18, 2010 at home. He was born in La Crosse, Wis. on August 7, 1939 to William and Helen (Hammer) Flannery Sr. He married Marilyn Tschumper in St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Hokah, Minn. on September 3, 1960. Bill had farmed his entire life up on the ridge in between Brownsville and Hokah. He was a member of the Hokah Volunteer Fire Department for 41 years serving 23 of those years as their president. His dedication to service continued with 37 years on the Brownsville Town Board, 16 years with the Hokah Lions Club, and membership in the La Crescent Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife of 49 years, Marilyn of Hokah, he is survived by his children; Joseph (Laurie) Flannery of Hokah, Minn., Tari (Jeff) Lindow of Anchorage, Alaska, Roxanne (Terry) Von Arx of Holmen, Wis., Jean (John) Braund of Onalaska, Wis., Dean (Hope) Flannery of Hokah, Minn., nine grandchildren, two sisters; Marion Lynch of Houston, Minn. and Verna Mae (Tom) Randall of Genoa, Wis. He was preceded in death by one sister Helen “Mitzi” Rottman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Brownsville, Minn. Rev. Joseph Pete will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call on the family at the church Friday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
