The District #299 Board of Education accepted the request from head football coach Carl Fruechte for a two year leave of absence, effective at the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year. The action was taken during the Jan. 25 board meeting.

Director Spencer Yohe said, “I visited with Coach today. That man’s one of the best of the best we’ve ever had here, so I hope we will send him a letter of thanks, and I hope to see him back in two years.”

Superintendent Bruce Thomas said the job will be posted. When asked as to the reason for the leave, he said that he had spoken with Fruechte, and the coach had indicated the desire to spend more time with family members next fall. Yohe said that Fruechte would still be “very active” with school sports.

The board accepted the resignation of Zach Hauser as junior high baseball coach, effective immediately, with thanks for his services. When Thomas asked if anyone knew why Hauser resigned, Middle/High School Principal Paul DeMorett smiled and gave a two word explanation; “New baby.” DeMorett said that the job has already been posted.

Directors approved a series of spring coaching contacts.

Eliot Kranz will serve as head coach for baseball. Tom Schultz will be his assistant. The junior high baseball coach’s position is still open.

Mitch Mullins will coach boys‚ golf, while Ken Van Den Boom will coach girls’ golf. Jeremy Leis will serve as the assistant for both the boys’ and girls’ golf programs.

Boys track will be coached by Carl Fruechte this spring, while Jim Westland will coach the girls’ track program. Reese Wait will be the assistant coach for both track programs.
