The Caledonia boys basketball team had a very busy and successful week, as they won four games in five nights. The four Three Rivers Conference wins improved the Warriors’ record to 17-4, and extended their winning streak to 10 straight games.
“It was a tough week, but a good week for us. Having to play Fillmore Central twice in four days (both were make-up games due to snow storms) and winning both of them really shows where this team is right now. We are healthy, the kids have gotten used to their roles and we are playing some good, solid basketball right now,” coach Josh Diersen said. “Winning back-to-back games on the road Monday and Tuesday night was huge for us. And then finishing out the week with wins at home on Thursday and Friday really capped off a very good week for us.
The Warriors beat Fillmore Central 78-42 on Feb. 15 in Preston, beat Chatfield on the road Feb. 16 52-42, beat Fillmore Central Feb. 18 in Caledonia 67-57 and topped visiting Kingsland Feb. 19 54-37.

The Warriors played excellent defense and shot well in the 36-point win over the Falcons Jan. 15 in Preston. Caledonia led 34-18 at the half and went on to outscore the Falcons 44-24 in the second half.
The Warriors shot well from the field (61 percent), although they only made 3 of 12 treys. They hit 5 of 10 shots from the charity stripe.
Ethan Lapham was one of four Warriors to hit double figures. He scored 22 points and had five rebounds. Lucas Lampert had 12 points and five rebounds. Ivan Augedahl had 11 points and Mitch Reiser had 10 points.
Isaac Fruechte added eight points, eight rebounds and five assists. Justin Felten had seven points and Cody Haugstad, Mike Ideker, Cole O’Heron and Josh Gran each had two points. Gran also had seven assists.
Warriors 52, Chatfield 42
The Warriors were on the road the following night to battle the Chatfield Gophers. Cal jumped out to an early lead and led 22-17 at the half. The Warriors outscored Chatfield 30-25 in the second half for the 10-point win.
“We missed a lot of bunnies (close shots) in this game. We only shot 40 percent from the field and 29 percent on our treys, but we did a better job shooting free throws, making 10 of 14,” Diersen said.
“Once again our defense played very well, holding a team to around 40 points. We just missed a ton of easy shots,” the coach added.
Fruechte and Ivan Augedahl led the Warriors with 10 points each. Augedahl also had four steals. Lapham had eight points and six rebounds, while Bobby Augedahl had eight points and five assists.
Reiser had seven points, Gran had six and Haugstad had three to round out the scoring for the Warriors.
Warriors 67- Fillmore Central 57
The Warriors hosted the FC Falcons Thursday night in the elementary gym. The high school gym was hosting the Section 1AA wrestling team quarterfinals. So the make-up game with FC was moved to the elementary school.
The Falcons jumped out to an early lead and led by nine points, 36-27 at the half.
“We talked things over at the half and made some adjustments,”
Diersen said.
Evidently it worked, as the Warriors outscored the visitors 40-21 in the second half for the 10-point win.
“We got hot from the outside in the second half,” Diersen noted. “Cody Haugstad had a big night for us, hitting 7 of 12 treys for 21 points. Bobby Augedahl also hit 3 of six treys. We really put it together in the second half. It was a good win for us.”
The Warriors were without the services of their 6’5” center Ethan Lapham, who had a sprained ankle. Diersen said his guards really stepped up their play to compensate Lapham’s absence.
The Warriors shot 37 percent from the field, including 43 percent from three point land. They also made 5 of 9 free throws.
Haugstad led the Warriors with 21 points. Gran was right behind with 20 points. Bobby Augedahl had nine points, Fruechte had seven points, 14 rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots. Reiser had six points and 12 rebounds. Ivan Augedahl and Ideker each had two points. Lampert did not score but had six assists.

Warriors 54, Kingsland 37
The Warriors played some very good defense in holding Kingsland to just 37 points Friday night. They led 30-19 at the half and outscored the visiting Knights 24-18 in the second half.
The Warriors shot just 34 percent from the field including a very cold 15 percent from three point land.
“This being our fourth game of the week, I think the kids’ legs were a little tired,” Diersen said. “We had a lot of shots coming up short in this game.”
Caledonia did make 9 of 14 from the free throw line.
Lapham was back in action for Friday night’s game and led the team with a double-double. He had 12 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots.
Reiser also hit double figures with 11 points and three assists. Fruechte had nine points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots. Bobby Augedahl had seven points, Gran had five, Lampert had three points and seven rebounds, Ely Trudo made a big three pointer from “down town,” Haugstad had two points and three steals and Felten had two points.
Up next
The Warriors finish out the regular season with three games this week. Feb. 23 they hosted a good Rushford-Peterson team. Feb. 25 they will travel to Plainview to take on the state-ranked Bulldogs. And Feb. 27 they host Austin.
Diersen said the Warriors will probably receive the number three seed in the East Sub-section tournament. They will host either Lesiston-Altura or Winona Cotter March 4 at 7 p.m.
