Public can voice support for federal funding of three county projects PDF Print
Houston County has submitted three Federal Appropriations requests through Congressman Tim Walz’s office. In an effort to increase the transparency of this process Congressman Walz is asking for public input and support for requested projects.

“The more public support from local elected leaders, community officials, and from citizens in southern Minnesota project requestors can demonstrate for a project, the better the chance that I will submit it to the House Appropriations Committee for consideration,” Walz explained.

The three projects that Houston County has submitted for consideration are:

Application Number 22-  Houston County EOC- This request is for the funding of equipment that will be associated with the Emergency Operations Center in the new Justice Center.

Application Number 23- Houston County ICP- This request for funding is to purchase mobile and portable radios to replace every unit currently utilized by all EMS, fire, law enforcement, public works, environmental services and highway agencies within Houston County. This is a federal mandate that will take place Jan. 1, 2013.  Nearly all of the current systems across the county are not in compliance with this mandate and will no longer operate after this deadline.

Application Number 24- Houston County Public Works Facility- This request for the funding of a new Facility to replace the 60-plus-year old facility that has significant deterioration. The county currently has proposed a new office/maintenance building, vehicle and cold storage buildings, and a salt shed.

“Your message could be as simple as I support the Houston County EOC request.  I support the Houston County ICP request.  I support the Houston County Public Works Facility request,” Houston County Financial Director Casey Bradley noted.
