The weather was perfect and the crowds large for the International Festival of Owls, which was held March 5 - 7 in Houston. In the photo above, Teri Schroer, director of Education at World Bird Sanctuary, St. Louis, introduced the crowd to Mia, a spectacled owl from Mexico. A demonstration of owl flight was also given with a barn owl soaring silently over the heads of the visitors. At left, Samantha Eiken with son Caleb, of Spring Grove, appeared to be engrossed in dissecting some owl pellets.
