As enrollment numbers decline, and as the state government, under the shattered leadership of Governor Pawlenty continues to balance their budgets on the backs of local units of government, the Caledonia Area School Board was forced to make some reductions to next year’s educational programs and positions.

At the school board meeting held Monday, March 17, Superintendent Mike Moriarty presented the board with four cost saving reductions expected to become effective next year.

A .40 middle/high school Spanish position will be eliminated.

Kindergarten positions will be reduced from 2.5 (FTE) full-time to 2 (FTE) full-time.

The school will also reduce one FTE middle/high school combination social studies and reading position.

As per the boards decision on February 27, 2006, one administrative position will also be eliminated.

“There are no names attached to any of this at this point,” said Moriarty.

One a roll call vote the resolution discontinuing and reducing educational programs and positions was approved unanimously by the District #299 school board.

Meanwhile, at the capital, Governor Pawlenty had visions of one day being referred to as “vice-president Pawlenty.”

After reading Mr. McGonigle's "news" pieces this week describing Klobuchar's "pleasant disposition" and Pawlenty's "shattered leadership", I think I might have an inkling about which way he leans politically. I just never thought I'd see that in a Caledonia paper. I guess it shouldn't be too surprising given the fact that SE MN sent Wellstone's hammer-and-sickle comrade to the capitol this last time.

Mr McGonigle, Why don't you report the news (facts) in the news articles and keep your opinions in the opinion section of the paper. You made a very terrible mistake of journalism, you let your opinions get in the way of facts.

your lack of journalistic ethics and integrity are appalling, yet not surprising, considering what passes as journalism today.
nice job of "unbiased reporting".
