“We hate to lose him,” said Mike Moriarty of Evan Thimmesch, outgoing IT Systems Administrator for the school. “He’s been a real asset to our district these past two years.”

Thimmesch has been accepted at two law schools and is leaning towards getting his education at the University of Minnesota.

“We’re pleased we had him here with us for a couple of years,” said Moriarty.

While working for the district, Thimmesch started at Caledonia in October of 2006, the young IT manager helped the district take the next step in several areas of technology.

“We replaced the phone system, implemented a new student information system, the new lunch system as well as put in a program to monitor toner usage,” said Thimmesch. “I installed a learning management system called ‘Moodle.’ A lot of schools in the state are beginning to catch onto it. We were one of the first.”

Thimmesch did his undergraduate work at Luther College where he was a double major in Management Information Systems and Business Management.

His college days were put to good use early on in his time at the school.

“Coming in it was tough starting out,” he recalls. “I only received one-day training with the former IT person so it was tough...but I enjoyed the challenge.”

What he’ll miss

“I really enjoyed being able to work on a project which will hopefully have a positive impact either on the district as a whole or the students,” said Thimmesch. “For example the lunch system. To see the kids have more time for lunch because of the new system makes it really worthwhile.”

At this young point in his career, Thimmesch already has so many people he wishes to thank.

“The administration, the teachers, students, pretty much everybody in the district,” said Thimmesch. “They helped out so much when I got started and they’ve really been very giving of their time.”

Thimmesch said his experience at the school has helped prepare him for the journey he is about to begin.

“It has forced me to learn a lot of things,” he said of his time at the school. “I’ve learned how to deal with a lot of different people and how to deal with a lot of different things that come up in a day.”

He also said he is pleased that his experience has given him a solid base with which to approach his studies in law.

“Being the head of the technology committee was a great experience on how to move an organization through to its goals,” he said. “It’s given me a lot of experience in helping move something forward.”

Thimmesch will begin his studies this fall. His last day with  the district is expected to be sometime in July. He hopes to be available to the new hire to help that person adjust to the many technological changes happening at Caledonia Area Schools.
