Long-time Caledonia Public Schools teacher Pam Griffith was honored Saturday by being named the “Scot of the Year,” during Caledonia’s 14th Annual Scottish heritage Dinner. The event, which was held Saturday evening at the Four Season’s Community Center, was enjoyed about 140 persons of Scottish heritage, and those who wish they were.
According to the bio that was read during the presentation, Griffith was born in Arcadia, Wis., attended Preston High School and Mankato State University.
Griffith began her teaching career at St. Cloud, where she me Caledonia native Jeb Griffith. The two married and moved to Caledonia, where Pam began a 31-year teaching career.
While she retired from the classroom, Griffith certainly didn’t retire. She volunteers weekly at St. Claire’s Mission (where free medical care is provided to those who cannot afford it), is a member of the Caledonia Community Center Board, is a member of the Scottish heritage Committee, has taught Sunday school, been a youth fellowship leader and chairs the Memorial Committee at the Caledonia Methodist Church.

She is a founding member of Caledonia Green.
Those who attended last Saturday night’s event had a great time, according to one of the event organizers Kermit McRae. “The La Crosse Pipes and Drums Corps always does a great job. They’ve pretty much adopted us. We certainly couldn’t afford to pay them for their wonderful music. And Laura MacKenzie was really something with all the different instruments she plays.
“The Scottish Heritage Dinner was a big success, and I’d like to thank everyone who had a part in making it so again this year,” McRae concluded.
