“When you see deserted storefronts downtown, it’s not just very impressive. We’re trying to do something about that. That’s why we’re offering our window fronts for displays,” explained Ervin Barth of the Caledonia Masonic Lodge.

The local Masons, who have owned and occupied the two-story building on South Kingston in downtown Caledonia for more than three decades, are offering their window fronts to display school projects, and/or to promote non-profit organizations, such as 4-H clubs, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and church groups.

The Masons had sponsored the local boxing club, and had their club trophies and other boxing memorabilia in their windows for the past six years. But as interest in boxing has waned  recently, the Masons decided to display something else in their windows.

Currently, the two window fronts, which measure five feet wide by 30 inches deep, are being occupied with science projects from the Caledonia Area Elementary School fifth grade.

“We’d like to promote school projects and various non-profit organizations,” Barth said. “And we’re hoping other property owners in the downtown business district might do the same. It’s a lot nicer looking at a display than an empty window.”
