James Carlton Ostern, age 95 of Caledonia, and formerly of Spring Grove, Minn., died Saturday, Apr. 5, 2008 at Caledonia Care and Rehab.

He was born Jan. 19, 1913 in Elgin to John and Clara (Fossum) Ostern.

James married Esther Jacobson. The couple lived in the Spring Grove area for most of their married life, also living in Cottage Grove, Minn. and San Diego, Calif. Esther preceeded James in death on Aug. 11, 1984.
James worked as an airline inspector for Gopher Aviation, and a mechanic for Northwest Airlines; and he was a private pilot.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove.

Survivors include his two daughters: Renee Ostern, West St. Paul; and Keri (Bruce) Corcoran, Oakdale, Minn.; two grandchildren; and one sister Clarissa (Leonard) Brenna, Mabel.

In addition to his wife Esther, he was preceeded in death by his son Barry James, and six siblings.

Funeral services will be held Wed. at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Pastor Stephanie Frey will officiate. Burial will be in the Trinity Church Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church.
