The Caledonia baseball team played the Chatfield Gophers even for six
of the seven innings during their April 7 outing on the road.
Unfortunately, the Gophers out-scored the Warriors 8-0 in the fourth
inning and went on to win the season opener for CHS by a 9-1 score.
Alex Klug was on the mound for the Warriors and gave up just one run on
three hits and two walks, while fanning five through the first three
innings. In fact, the game was tied at 1-1 when Chatfield exploded for
eight runs in the fourth inning to put the game away.
The Gophers scored on five walks, two wild pitches, two Warrior errors
and four Chatfield hits. Klug was touched for two runs in the fourth,
Kody Moore came into the game in relief and gave up five earned runs on
two walks, two wild pitches, two Warrior errors, and one base hit. Ryan
Goetzinger was the third CHS pitcher of the inning and was able to put
out the Chatfield fire, giving up one run and striking out two.
Caledonia scored its lone run in the third inning when Goetzinger
singled, moved to second and third on a pair of walks, and was plated
on a single by Moore.
The Warriors were limited to five hits. Moore was two for five with an
RBI, and Goetzinger, Bobby Augedahl, and Blake Knutson each had one hit.
Mother Nature hasn’t been real cooperative for spring sports
enthusiasts, and that includes the Warrior baseball team. Out of their
first five games scheduled, they were able to play one, and got two
innings in against Southland on April 8 before the game was called due
to snow.
The Southland contest will be played as part of a double header in Adams on May 6.
This week
With the weather finally straightening out a bit, the Warriors were
able to entertain PEM Monday afternoon after this issue of The Argus
went to press. The Warriors will play a double header at Wabasha
Thursday, April 17, so make up for the April 1 game with
Wabasha-Kellogg that was postponed. And the Warriors will host
Kingsland Friday, April 18, which is another make-up game, scheduled to
be played March 31.
