Dorothy M. Pottratz, 81, of Eitzen, Minn., died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008 at Caldonia Care and Rehab.
She was born May 14, 1926 in La Crosse, Wis. to Leo and Cecil (Hartley) Pottratz, Jr.
Dorothy attended schools in Eitzen, Caledonia, and then Hamline
University and the University of Minnesota where she majored in English
with a minor in Home Economics. After graduation she was the Houston
County 4-H Club agent and was selected as Minnesota’s representative to
the UK as part of the International Farm Youth Exchange for three
months. Dorothy was later employed at Sedard Travel in Minneapolis and
at the Rochester Post Bulletin as a proofreader. For several years she
owned and operated a gift shop in La Crosse.
Survivors include two sisters: Neva (Charles) Auenson, and Alice
(Walter) Gensmer; sister-in-law Mary Jane Pottratz; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Dell Pottratz.
Memorial services will be Monday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. at
Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral home, Caledonia. Burial will be in St.
Luke’s U.C.C. North Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the
funeral home on Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials
are preferred to the Houston County Historical Society.
