The Caledonia High School/Middle School will be filled with art, music, and dance this Saturday afternoon, as the Third Annual Caledonia Area Family Arts Festival will be held. The event, which is presented by the Caledonia Area Arts Council, through a grant from The Caledonia Argus, begins at 3 p.m. and concludes with a festival concert at 7 p.m.

“We’re pleased to present our focus this year- the art of dance,” said Judy St. Mary of the local arts council. “We encourage everyone to come and listen to the Clog Jam from La Crosse and the International Dancers from Winona, as they clog, tap, and twirl us into an art form that has been important in all cultures and time periods in history,” she added.

A number of local artists, featuring stained glass, porcelain jewelry, pen and ink drawings, pottery, paintings, and much more, will have their work on display in the commons area from 3 to 7 p.m. Some of the artists will be conducting demonstrations throughout the afternoon, and many will have their pieces available to purchase. Caledonia area students will also have their work on display in the commons.

The Winona International Dancers will be conducting two folk dancing clinics in the high school choir room. The first workshop will be from 3 to 4 p.m., while the second will be from 5 to 6 p.m. The workshops are open for beginning or experienced dancers of all ages.

A clogging demonstration will be held in the auditorium from 5 to 6 p.m., presented by the La Crosse Clog Jam.

A festival concert will be held in the auditorium, beginning at 7 p.m. The concert will feature a Dixie Band Jam, Clog Jam with Tom Pfaff on banjo, the Winona International Dancers and the Caledonia Area Elementary School Choir.

All events are free and open to the public. A food stand with hot sandwiches, chips and bars will be open throughout the afternoon.

Thank you to Argus for the Grant given to promote the ARTS, especially the art of dance! the High School is a wonderful venue for this celebration. I was most impressed by the people who participated with eagerness in the workshops. I was thrilled by the fact that some of the workshop attendees wanted to perform in the evening show! They ALL did a terrific job!

ClogJam loved the chance to share their knowledge of Appalachian clog dancing with y'all!

Thanks again for the invitation to a wonderfully organized festival!
