The Caledonia/Spring Grove girls’ golf team traveled to Waukon for a meet on Tuesday, April 22, defeating the home-town Indians 201 to 225.

Coach Ken Van Den Boom said it was a good victory for the Warriors over a traditional strong power. “We had a nice round by Samantha Meyer,” said Van Den Boom. “201 is our low score for the season so far.

“As a varsity, we continue to try to keep our poor holes to bogeys or better,” said Van Den Boom. “We hope for better weather this week.” Although it was sunny and in the 60s in Waukon, it was breezy, and the team had to play on soggy ground.

Samantha Meyer was medalist with a 46. Heather Kuecker and Clare McCarthy carded 50s, and Jessica Kruckow shot a 55. Maria Dokken had a 60 and Chelsea McManimon-Moe a 62.

“Once again, we showed depth, as our JV score was better than their varsity score,” said Van Den Boom.

Stephanie Landsom was JV medalist with a 53. Emily Klug shot 54; Sam Ellingson 55; and Sarah Eppen 57. Maria Mullins shot a 57 and Caitlyn Stoltz a 60.

C/SG JV vs. Fillmore JV boys

In junior high competition, the Caledonia/Spring Grove girls challenged the Fillmore Central JV boys. The Warriors came in with 240 to the Fillmore boys’ 217.

“Jennifer Ely did a great job shooting a 53,” said Van Den Boom. “The girls need to play against boys’ teams because not a lot of schools have strong junior high girls teams. I have been very  happy with the progress of the junior high girls golfers.”

Jennifer Ely shot 53; Paige Langen 61; Dejah Williams 62; and Taylor Schulte 64. Heather Solberg shot 70.

Next: The Warriors host Fillmore Central on Tuesday, April 29; participate in the Wabasha-Kellogg tournament on Thursday, May 1; host a quadrangular on Friday, May 2 with Southland, Byron and La Crescent; host Winona Senior High on Saturday, May 3 and Kingsland on Monday, May 5 and Waukon on Monday, May 6.
