The Elementary Response to Intervention (RTI) grant provided by the Hiawatha Valley Education District (HVED) has done many exciting things for the 2007-08 school year and students at the Caledonia Area Elementary School.
The grant provided funds for AIMS web math and reading benchmarks and progress monitoring for grades K-5.
The program is able to help track a student’s progress and set goals for the student to help aid in their success.
The “ABC’s” of response to intervention practices for students with challenging behaviors conference was another area that the RTI grant assisted.
Kathy Danaher, Judy Flaten, Connie Hesse, Beth McDonald and Cindy Staggemeyer worked with students on the practices and $1,650.31 was given to help offset the costs of the educational program.
Another location that the RTI grant is helping is Box Cars and One Eyed Jacks, math intervention materials for pre-school-grade five.
“This has been a wonderful program,” noted Hesse. “There are many programs in place to help students with reading but there aren’t many good ones for math. This was very successful.”
The donation by RTI for the Box Cars...was $355.60.
Earobics Step 1 and Step 2 phonemic awareness materials for pre-school through grade five was another area of assistance.
The grant contributed $773.10.
Read Well 2, core reading curriculum materials for grades second and third was also purchased with the grant at a cost of $2,089.78.
Star Autism support materials for grades K-5 saw $834.90 in assistance from the grant.
In total, the RTI grant contributed $5,693.69 in materials to the elementary school in Caledonia.
