If it ain’t broke don’t fix it was the philosophy of the Caledonia School Board as many of their officers for 2008 held the same position they had held in 2007.
Naomi Fruechte was again elected as chair, Charlie Wray was elected as vice-chair. Jean Meyer was nominated to continue on as clerk, and Michelle Werner was named as treasurer. John Klug will be the legislative liaison replacing Meyer.
The board voted unanimously on the nominating of the 2008 officers.
Same bat place, same bat time
The school board will continue to hold their monthly meetings on the third Monday of each month with the first Monday serving as the alternate time as needed. The meetings will continue to take place at 7:00 p.m. in the elementary media center unless designated otherwise.
Board compensation
Regular, special and committee meetings were agreed to remain at $35 per meeting attended per reimbursement for board members.
All day in and out of district meetings will remain at $75 per day and $37.50 per half day.
Mileage allowance is $.050.5 or per the IRS Guidelines, up from $0.48.5 in 2007.
And now the big news
The school board voted unanimously to continue with the Caledonia Argus as its official newspaper. Known for its quality journalism, the school recognized The Argus as the fine publication that it is and saw no reason to name any other newspaper as its official newspaper for 2008. Good choice.
The board also voted to remain with several local banks and the law firm of Ratwick, Roszak and Maloney will be the law firm who will handle student/employee matters and Tim Murphy for property and other local concerns.
“They are one of the largest school law firms in the state,” said superintendent Mike Moriarty of Murphy. “I feel pretty comfortable with them.”
Special meeting
This month, because of the Martin Luther King holiday, the regular school board meeting will take place on January 28 at 7:00 p.m. There will be a special meeting regarding teacher negotiations which will take place on January 14 also at 7:00 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.
The date for the February 18 meeting must also be changed because of Presidents Day. That month, the meeting will take place on February 25 at 7:00 p.m. Government entities, by law, aren’t allowed to conduct any official business on holidays.
“You can meet all you want,” Moriarty informed the board. “It is just illegal to conduct any official business.”
Please mark your calendars of the changed dates.
