Bad weather, but girls’ golf goes on PDF Print

The sun was a rare commodity last week, and it rained a lot, but the Caledonia/Spring Grove girls’ golf team managed to get some golf in anyway.

Wabasha-Kellogg Invite

C/SG participated in the eight-team Wabasha Kellogg Invitational at Coffee Mill Golf Course on Thursday, May 1.

The Warriors placed second with a score of 407 behind first place Lake City with 371.

Emily Klug had the low score for Caledonia/Spring Grove with a 97. “She is the fourth different medalist we have had in five meets,” said Van Den Boom. “Out of 48 golfers Caledonia/Spring Grove placed two in the individual medal group. Emily Klug placed fourth with her 97 and Clare McCarthy placed l8th with a 99.

“I felt this was a good week of progress, but we need lots of work on our short game.”

Also scoring for the Warriors were Samantha Meyer and Jessica Kruckow with 100s. Molly Mullins carded 102 and Heather Kuecker 108.

Fillmore Central was third in the tournament with 408; Lanesboro fourth with 419; Wabasha-Kellogg fifth with 426; Lewiston-Altura sixth with 435; Houston seventh with 443 and Stewartville eighth with 476.

C/SG 187, Fillmore Central 201

At Fillmore on Tuesday, April 29, the Warriors outscored the Falcons 187 to 201.

“This was the first time we had four girls in the 40s,” said coach Ken Van Den Boom. “Heather Kuecker was medalist for the second time. As a team, it was good to see a score below 200.”

Kuecker carded a 45 for medalist honors. Chelsea McManimon-Moe scored 46; Samantha Meyer 47, and Clare McCarthy 49. Klug shot a 50 and Kruckow 53.

The C/SG JV team defeated their Fillmore Central opponents 247 to 258.

“Molly Mullins did a nice job with a 53,” said Van Den Boom.

Mullins earned co-medalist honors with her 53. Sarah Eppen scored a 56, Megan Houdek a 59, and Amanda Neuzil 79.

Junior High at Preston

The junior high team traveled to Preston on Tuesday, April 29 for a big win over their opponents 233 to 303.

“Jennifer Ely led the team with a medalist score of 53,” said Van Den Boom. “This is the first time all the junior high players got to play against another team, and the first time many of them have played on another course. This year’s junior high golfers continue to make progress.”

The scores contributing to the 233 total were Ely’s 53, Katie McCarthy’s 56, Morgan Rogich’s 60 and Dejah Williams’ 64. Paige Langen and Taylor Schulte shot 68s, Samantha Stone and Heather Solberg 73s, Emily Rud 76, Claire Eglinton 85, Kelsey Hempel 87 and Natalie Holty 88.
