The Caledonia baseball team ran into some tough luck last week, as they
dropped three Three Rivers Conference games by a total of six runs. CHS
lost to host team Fillmore Central 5-4 on April 28, dropped another 5-4
game to Chatfield at home the following evening, and lost to
Plainview-Elgin-Millville on the road May 1 by a 7-3 score.

After taking a 3-0 lead into the fifth inning, the Warriors gave up
five runs on the road April 28, and returned home with a disappointing
5-4 loss.
Caledonia scored three runs in the second inning when Trent Meyer
singled, stole second and moved to third when Dustin King reached first
on a Falcon error. Matt Mitchell singled to drive in Meyer and Pat
Bolduan drove in King and Mitchell with a base hit.
Ryan Goetzinger kept the Falcons in check for the first four innings, as he walked two, gave up two hits and struck out eight.
Down 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth, the Falcons scored all five of their runs on two hits, three CHS errors and two walks.
It appeared as if Caledonia would mount a winning rally in the top of
the seventh when they sent six batters to the plate. King singled, and
stole second. Mitchell walked and both runners moved up on a sacrifice
bunt by Bolduan. Goetzinger singled in King, but Mitchell was stranded
at third when the next two Warriors were retired.
Bolduan led the Warrior offense going 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs, Mitchell was
1-for-3, scored a run and had an RBI, Goetzinger was 1-for-4 with an
RBI, King was 1-for-3 and scored twice, Meyer was 1-for-3 and scored
once, Kody Moore was 1-for-3, and Alex Klug was 1-for-4.

The Warriors scored once in the first inning, two in the bottom of the
fourth, and one in the bottom of the seventh, but fell one run short,
as the visiting Gophers topped them 5-4.
The Warriors scored first blood in the bottom of the first when Bolduan
singled, moved to second on a single by Bobby Augedahl and scored on a
fielder’s choice.
Chatfield took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third when Warrior pitcher Bobby Augedahl hit a batter and then gave up a home run.
The Gophers padded their lead in the fourth when they scored two runs
with two outs, thanks to a Warrior throwing error and two singles.
Caledonia pulled within a run, 4-3, in the bottom of the fourth when
Goetzinger singled, moved to second on a single by King, and scored on
a single by Adam O’Heron. Mitchell plated King, the Warriors loaded the
bases, but couldn’t get another runner across the plate.
Chatfield made it 5-3 in the fifth on another Warrior error and a single.
Caledonia made it 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh when Klug walked,
moved to second on a single by Moore and scored on a fielder’s choice.
Moore, who represented the tying run, was stranded at third, however,
as the next two Caledonia batters were retired in order.
Three Warriors had two hits each. Mitchell was 2-for-3 and Moore and
King were both 2-for-4. Augedahl, Goetzinger, O’Heron and Kevin Voight
each had one hit for Caledonia.
PEM 7 Cal 3
The Warriors went on the road May 1 to battle the PEM Bulldogs, and returned home with a 7-3 loss.
The ‘Dogs scored three in the first, one in the second and three more in the third.
CHS had a five-hit third inning, but managed just three runs. Three
straight hits by Bolduan, Augedahl, and Klug scored one run. Augedahl
scored on a fielder’s choice and Klug scored on a single by Meyer.
Goetzinger singled but both he and Meyer were stranded on second and
third.
Caledonia managed six hits in the game, with Goetzinger going 2-for-3.
Klug and Meyer each had a hit and an RBI, and Augedahl and Bolduan had
the other two Warrior hits.
