My vote: No Confidence PDF Print
daniel.jpgHaving voted for the “lesser of two evils,” my entire voting career, I think it’s time our nation allow a “vote of no confidence.”  In pretty much every conversation I have with the people I interact with on a week to week basis, they all say the same thing… “I didn’t vote for George Bush as much as I voted against John Kerry.” Insert Al Gore, or George Bush senior, the list could go on and on and on.

The no confidence option could be on the ballot each November and if no clear choice is given by the electorate, then the parties would have to put forth another candidate. Of course, the process would have to be sped up but I think under the current model we’ve got time. We’ve endured campaign 2008 since 2006. Things could just be moved up a little bit. We could take the no confidence vote after the first few months of rhetoric. Why do we need to hear the same thing over and over and over by the same people?  I for one don’t want to live 28 years of my life with either a Bush or a Clinton as my president (which would happen if Hillary were elected in 2008 and again to a second term in 2012). If you figure in the eight years that Bush 1 was in the White House as vice president that number would balloon to 36 years. And of course in 2012 it will be Jenna Bush against Chelsey Clinton so the monarchy will continue.

I could prevent all of that by simply a “No Confidence,” option on the upcoming ballots.

The astronomical amounts of money these people have spent to hold this job gives me little to no confidence at all in a system where I think voices like mine are seldom, if ever heard. That would of course be the voice of the common man. So a no confidence option might help these politicians begin to think about people like you and I.

I am tired of living in the richest nation in the world and yet my company, my wife’s job, every company in this land has to struggle with rising health care costs. I am tired of my so called leaders lining the pockets of the wealthy oil moguls only to have the people running those companies to promise to invest in renewable fuels, clean up the environment and “be good stewards of the land.” Meanwhile, they control the entire fuel delivery system and ethanol gasoline can only be found in a few stations in the upper Midwest. I am tired of the cost of every basic need I have, food, shelter, fuel and clothing, going up, up, up, while salaries go down in some cases or remain the same in others.

I have no confidence in my leaders whatsoever, Democrats, Republicans or Independents. This November, if you feel the same as I do, write in “no confidence.” Maybe eventually these meatballs will give us someone to elect, versus someone to vote against.
