Caledonia/Spring Grove took part in the Hayfield Invitational on
Saturday, May 10, taking fourth place out of 11 teams with a score of
399. “Two of the teams that beat us, Austin and Woodbury, are Class 3
schools,” said Coach Ken Van Den Boom. “Both Emily Klug and Molly
Mullins had great front nine scores of 44. Samantha Meyer had the low
18 hole score for C/SG and she placed 12th individually.”
“I felt that it took us too many holes to adjust to the hard, fast
greens,” said Van Den Boom. “It was great to get in an 18 hole match.
Even though it seems as though the season has just started, we are only
one week away from sub-section tournaments.”
Meyer carded a 97; Klug and Mullins 99s, and Jessica Kruckow and Heather Kuecker 102s. Clare McCarthy scored a 113.
Woodbury took first with a 351, Austin second with 381 and Byron third
with 386. Rochester Central carded a 433, Houston 484, and Lyle Pacelli
550. United South Central, Kingsland, Zumbrota-Mazeppa and Hayfield had
incomplete scores.
Jr. High All-Conference Meet
All junior high golfers in the conference met at Preston on Friday, May
9. “The junior high girls had a great day at the All Conference meet in
Preston,” said Van Den Boom. “I was very impressed with the way these
young ladies represented the C/SG golf team.”
In the eighth grade division Jennifer Ely placed first in the
conference with a score of 50. Placing fourth in the conference
was Katie McCarthy with 54. Placing fifth was Morgan Rogich with
a 55. With a score of 60, Paige Langen placed sixth. Also taking part
for C/SG was Heather Solberg with a 66; Natalie Holte with a 71; Taylor
Schulte with a 70, and Samantha Stone with a 77.
C/SG 184, Chatfield 227
The Warriors traveled to Chatfield Thursday, May 8 where they defeated the Gophers 184 to 269.
Van Den Boom felt that it was a day of progress as far as golf scores
went. “Heather Kuecker, Molly Mullins and Clare McCarthy all shot their
best score so far this year,” said Van Den Boom. “The girls have made
much progress on their short games this week. If we can play well next
week we can win the conference as well as the conference tournament,”
he said.
Kuecker was medalist with 43. Mullins carded a 44, McCarthy a 45 and
Klug a 52. Chelsea McManimon-Moe scored a 54 and Samantha Meyer 55.
C/SG’s B squad defeated their Chatfield counterparts 209 to 269. Sam
Ellingson scored 51, Kruckow and Caitlyn Stoltz 52s, and Megan Houdek
and Sarah Eppen 54s. Stephanie Landsom came in with a 58.
The Warrior junior high girls scored 254. Ely carded a 57, Katie McCarthy 62, Paige Langen 64, and Taylor Schulte 71.
C/SG vs. Waukon
The Warriors hosted Waukon on Tuesday, May 6 at Ma Cal Grove. “We were
forced to stop play after the first group had finished,” said Van Den
Boom. “We played the last hole the next day to get scores. The JV was
done before the storm.” C/SG finished with a score of 195.
Kuecker carded a 47, Klug 48, and Meyer and Mullins 50s. Claire McCarthy scored 51, and Kruckow 54.
Cheslea McManimon-Moe was JV medalist with 47. Ellingson scored 53, Austin Perry 59 and Stoltz 61.
C/SG 201, Kingsland 231
Kingsland came to Caledonia on Monday, May 5 to be defeated by the Warriors 201 to 231.
“We continue to play well except for one or two holes on which we get
very high scores. If we can control our poor holes I believe we could
put up some very good team scores. We only had one score in the 40s.”
Meyer scored a 49. Kruckow and Kuecker both carded 50s, and Klug 52. Clare McCarthy scored a 54 and Chelsea McManimon-Moe 59.
“Our JV and varsity both shot 201. This is a great JV score,” said Van Den Boom.

Landsom 51s. Ellingson scored 54, Eppen 57, Jade Steele 58, Stoltz 60,
