In 2007, 63 journalists were killed world-wide doing their jobs.
It is a dangerous world in which we live and I for one appreciate what
my counterparts do in terms of bringing the world to our lap-tops,
computers, televisions, newspapers, magazines and hand-held devices.
They risk life and limb to bring the world to our doorstep and they should all be acknowledged for the great job they do.
My job is much less dangerous. However, even on the local level our
goal is to bring you, the reader, as much interesting and informative
content about your community as possible.
Like most newspapers today, we do so in many ways.
One is the printed version which you are holding in your hands. Inside
this very issue you’ll find our annual Bridal and Wedding tab. It is
something that our staff worked extremely hard to produce for you and
we hope you’ll enjoy the content contained within. If you are planning
a wedding this year, or are just wanting to renew your own commitment
through the memories which are sure to sprout up after reading some of
the stories contained within the tab, then we’ve done our job. No risk
to anyone’s health, but important reading none-the-less.
If you are a frequent visitor to www.hometownargus.com, then you’ve noticed some changes to that site as well.
As a staff we voted on how we’d want our website to look. After about a
month of internal discussions, we came up with an overall design and
the content we’d like to see on the site.
The web is an amazing tool which gives us the ability to publish breaking news and information on a daily basis.
If you can’t wait until Wednesday to get your paper, check out
www.hometownargus.com each day as chances are there might be something
new to see.
If you haven’t gone to the site lately you should do so, it is time well spent.
Writers strike
This is what I do, I write. I have always written. I’ve written poems,
screen-plays, children’s books, magazine articles and other things.
Some have been published, some have not. I’ve had agents read my
script, but have no other developments on that front. I am not a member
of the Writer’s Guild by holding a card, but I am a member of the
Writer’s Guild by din of my support.
I hope you’ll join me in supporting the people who bring television,
entertainment and movies to each of our lives. You can do so by
boycotting the many television shows that are coming back, all in the
name of the mighty dollar. Tune out and support the behind the scenes
people who bring a piece of themselves to your life each day. If you
get bored read a book, written word in its purest form.
