Those residents who saw flooding reach within 50 feet of their wells are encouraged to contact County Public Health Nursing office at 507-725-5810.
According to Deb Rock, the Public Health Nursing Director, the county has testing kits available free of charge for residents affected by the floods to test their drinking water.
“We are encouraging people to contact us,” she said. “It is important that people determine if their water is safe for drinking.”
The tests will determine the level of bacteria in a well and public health officials can advise homeowners how to proceed should their water be determined to be unsafe.
Another issue Rock thinks could be an issue homeowners will face in the near future is that of mold
As the water receeds from basements, mold left behind can be very dangerous for a homeowner.
“People should contact us and we can help,” she reports.
