This weekend’s flooding displaced over 60 campers from area campgrounds.

The Caledonia City Auditorium was a central location and staging ground for those displaced campers.

“We set up shelter here last night (Sunday),” said John Allen who is with the Red Cross.

Allen reported that 62 people came to the center originally but many sought shelter for the night with friends and family.

Early Monday, seven adult individuals and a few children were still at the shelter as they had no where else to go.

“Most found housing,” said Allen. “We had seven stay here and we were able to provide snacks and set up some cots and give them a place to sleep.”

Allen reported most were from the Twin Cities and were planning to  go back home on Monday.

“It worked out well,” he said of the shelter. “It’s been a long night but the people have been patient and very cooperative.”

Allen said the process of checking people in and out of the shelter went smoothly and that beyond just those that stayed, everyone was patient and understanding...despite the tough circumstances.
