Several of Lloyd Lampert’s closest friends, and of course, his family, gathered at the community center in Freeburg to honor the long-time Crooked Creek Township official.
The township board hosted a “Recognition Party” for Lampert.
After 36 years of service, Lampert stepped away from his position on the Crooked Creek Township board. He actually “retired” back in March when the elections were held.
However, with the flooding the area recently sustained, Lampert has been helping the current board with the additional workload.
“I fill in and do what I can do,” noted Lampert. “With the floods there is a lot of work to be done.”
Times have changed
In his 36-years, Lampert has seen his share of ups and downs.
“It’s been interesting,” he said. “The best part of it has been the people. I had a lot of great people to work with.”
Township business can’t quite be done for the same cost as it could in 1972 when Lampert joined the board.
“It’s unbelievable how things have changed,” he said. “The biggest thing is the amount of money it takes to operate now versus what you needed when I first started.”
Lampert said he stepped away because “it wasn’t as much fun anymore.”
He added: “you’ll find out when you’re my age.”
Andy Moen, who is the current township clerk had nothing but praise for Lampert.
“He’s always out there,” said Moen. “Right, wrong or indifferent he’d always make sure roads were open.”
Lampert, who “does what he can” on the farm with his two sons who took over his operation, smiled and laughed and shared his memories of the many things he’s accomplished in his 36 years in Crooked Creek Township. Recognition for a job well done.
