The Caledonia/Houston wrestling team finished fifth in a nine team
field on Saturday at Stewartville. The highlight for the Warriors
was that Tyler Stemper, the CHS 140 pound wrestler, was voted the
meet’s outstanding wrestler by the coaches.
Stemper was first at 140 pounds. The Warriors put three other
wrestlers into the finals and they all placed second. Lee Burg
was at 125, Owen Fitzgerald was at 135, and Cullen Becker was at 152.
The Warriors had 11 of their 14 wrestlers place in the top six.
Willie Krage finished one place higher than his seed with a third place. Finishing fourth was Lyndon Becker at 119.
Fifth place finishes went to Casey Stemper and Aleksander
Lorentzen. Sixth place finishes went to Tanner Benson at 112 and
Chris Myhre at 215.
“We seem to have some guys continue to be inconsistent,” Tolleson said.
Late surge brings loss on mat at Chatfield
Caledonia High School’s wrestling team was only down by one point at
Chatfield Jan. 10, with three matches left last week. But two
falls and a forfeit saw Chatfield win 42-23. “It was a lot closer
than the score indicated,” coach Jay Tolleson said.
Willie Krage opened with a decision at 103. Lyndon Becker edged
his opponent with a 7-5 victory before Lee Burg had a major decision at
125. Owen Fitzgerald had a decision at 135 and Cullen Becker had
a major decision at 160. Troy Frank recorded a fall at 171 to
close the score to one point.
Tolleson felt Warrior 215-pounder Chris Myhre ‘was caught’ when he made a wrong move, resulting in a Chatfield pin.
Tolleson said he did not put Aleksander Lorentzen out on the mat
because he felt there was little chance of the first year heavyweight
winning against an opponent because he was giving up 73 pounds.
Host Friday night meet
The Warriors host Wabasha-Kellogg and Cashton on Friday night.
