Large field will mean September 9 primary

With 13 persons filing for three positions on the Houston County Board of Commissioners, interest in local politics will be high this fall. That keen interest will precipitate a primary election, which will be held Tuesday, Sept. 9 in three commissioner districts.
District Three, where 16-year incumbent Ann Thompson announced she will not run again, garnered the most interest, as six persons have thrown their hats into the ring. They include Robert Augedahl, Richard “Dick” Kleist, Neil Goetzinger, Bradley King, Loren Lapham, and Joe Welch.
In District Five Tom Bjerke, who has served as a county commissioner for the past four years, has filed for re-election. He will be joined by Brad Hernandez and Brent Newgaard.
In District One, currently held by 16-year veteran Larry Graf, who is not seeking re-election, Gregory Husmann, Robert “Bob” Reider, John Meyer and Jack Miller have filed.
All three commissioner seats are four-year terms.
No primaries needed
There will be no primaries needed for the three Root River Soil and Water Conservation District Board positions.
Four persons have filed for the three Root River Soil and Water Conservation District Board Manager spots that are open. They are:
•District 3 (city of Spring Grove, Black Hammer, Spring Grove and Wilmington townships)- Glenn Kinnegerg and Roger Stenhoff;
•District 4 (cities of Caledonia and Eitzen, and Caledonia, Mayville, and Winnebago townships)- Vernon Fruechte;
•District 5 (city of Houston, and Houston, Money Creek, Sheldon, and Yucatan townships)- Joe McManimon.
Houston County District Court Judge James Fabian has also filed for re-election.
The filing period for the Caledonia City Council and Caledonia Area School Board is from Aug. 26 until Sept. 9.
Neither the city of Caledonia nor the School District #299 holds primaries.
