Bowlers of all ages can have some fun participating in an 8-pin no-tap tournament and help with the continuing fight against breast cancer at the same time.
The “Strike Out Breast Cancer to Spare a Pair” bowling tournament has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Starlite Lanes in Caledonia. All proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures.
Since its creation in 1982, the Susan G. Komen for a Cure has invested nearly $1 billion in cancer research, and has become the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
There will be two shifts for bowling- at 1 p.m. with a 4 p.m. awards program, and the second shift beginning at 5:30 p.m., with the awards program and raffle drawing at 8 p.m. Various Caledonia area businesses have donated items for the raffle.
The cost of the tournament is $15 per person. Starlite Lanes is only charging $1 per participant, with $14 for every bowler going to the fight against breast cancer.
The tournament is open to anyone 16 years and older, men, women, bowlers, and non-bowlers. Three games will be bowled in each shift. Registration is due by Oct. 11. Event organizers urge interested persons to register early.
The 4 p.m. awards program will also include an informational presentation by a representative from Franciscan-Skemp, and all cancer survivors participating in the tournament, or there as spectators will be honored at that time.
Computerized Wii bowling will also be available.
Entry forms are available at Starlite Lanes, Quillin’s, or the Caledonia Argus office.
