The Caledonia-Spring Grove gymnastics team participated in the Holmen tournament on Saturday, Jan. 12. The Warrior team took seventh place out of nine schools in the event, scoring 120.25 points.

Other teams competing that day and their scores were: Holmen 134.65, West Salem/Aquinas 132.175, La Crosse 130.875, La Crescent 130.55, Southwest/Cuba City 128.325, Reedsburg Area 126.95, Viroqua/Cashton/DeSoto 119.275, and Chippewa Falls 119.

“We had an excellent day on beam, 31.65 team score , highest of the year,” said coach Paul Stevens.

On beam Kaley Cross scored 8.65 for 8th place, and Ally Sheehan came in at 10th place with 8.5. Samantha Wermager  scored 7.65; Courtney Gran 6.85; and Emily Klug 6.45.

In the floor exercise Cross was 15th with 8.125. Wermager had 7.8; Miranda Moen 7.25; Klug 6.9; and Gran 6.9.

In bars Wermager scored 7.7; Cross 7.625; Skylar Schoh 6.25; Moen 5.95; and Courtney Gran    5.45.

In vault, Wermager took 11th place with 8.2. Gran scored 7.65; Klug 7.65; Cross 7.5; and Moen 7.425.

“Ally Sheehan hurt an ankle as she was warming up on vault, and Courtney Gran was pretty sick all day long, so her scores were down a lot,” said Stevens.

C-SG 120.625, La Crescent 132.2

The Warriors traveled to La Crescent for a meet on Monday, Jan. 14. La Crescent came out on top with a score of 132.2 to Caledonia-Spring Grove’s 120.625.

Coach Paul Stevens said that  it was very hard having this meet in La Crescent right after the big meet in Holmen on Saturday. “The girls did not have enough time to really make many changes in routines,”  he said.

“Courtney Gran was feeling a lot better than on Saturday when she competed but was very sick,” said Stevens. “Our team score was slightly higher than on Saturday as well. We are moving Miranda Moen and Skylar Schoh up to the varsity team on a few events and the scores could improve because of this.

“Skylar has learned a lot on bars and so will be moved up on that event. Miranda’s ankle that was injured earlier this year has improved and she also has put together a good floor routine,” said Stevens. “She will also be moved up to varsity floor. She will also be taking Ally Sheehan’s spot on vault and beam until Ally’s ankle is healed.

“Our bar score was the best of the season, but sadly our beam score was the lowest. Things have not be consistent on that event. Our floor score was also our highest of the year. We now have seven or eight days of practice before our next meet. This should really help the girls if they push themselves.  We have five meets before the section meet, so  our season is quickly coming to a close. Hard work is a must these last few weeks so that we can be at our strongest come section time.”

Next: The Warriors travel to Pine Island on Friday, Jan. 25.
