A cold start on a cold night in January, but the Caledonia Warriors pulled out the win against Chatfield 70-62.
“We started out cold from the field, we were getting good looks, but
they just were not falling,” said head coach Scott Sorenson. “I
was very proud of the girls in that they kept shooting, we talk about
it a lot, we need to keep shooting even though things are not going
down.
The cold start was a stark contrast to Chatfield who were on fire to begin the contest.
“On the other hand Chatfield shot lights out to start the game,
everything they shot went in,” said Sorenson. “We were down 5-20
with 10 minutes left in the first half, but again I was very proud of
the girls, they did not get discouraged and their confidence showed
through as we were able to mount a comeback and take the lead going
into the break.”
During the second stanza, the Warriors continued their late first half surge and came out smoking hot.
“In the second half we controlled the game, expanding a lead to as much
as 12 points,” said Sorenson. “The key to the win was our
confidence and execution when we needed it.”
Confidence, and solid shooting from the charity stripe.
“We shot great from the free throw line to keep Chatfield from closing
the gap,” said Sorenson. “It was one of the better games that I
have seen Chatfield play, they shot lights out. It was a big win
for us as it proved we are never out of a game if we go back to
fundamentals of taking care of the ball and playing solid defense.”
