By Charlie Warner Argus News Editor The Caledonia City Council gave its approval of six different zoning applications during the April 14 meeting. The zoning applications ranged from a new sign for the Caledonia Area Chamber of Commerce’s building to a 40 by 80-foot addition for Sno Pac Foods. The applications, in the order they were presented, included: •A four by seven-foot, double faced sign for the Caledonia Area Chamber of Commerce building. The sign will not be lighted and will be manufactured and installed by La Crosse Sign, Inc. •Raymond Hagen, 323 South Winnebago Street proposed to construct a 27 by 40-foot unattached garage to be located 16 feet from the south (side) property line and 30 feet from the west (front) property line. Hagen met all the setback requirements, but needed a variance because the garage will exceed the amount of covered space on a lot by 180 feet. •Bonanza Grain is proposing to construct a 50 by 96-foot hoop building to be located 20 feet from the north property line and 130 feet from the west property line. The building is intended for storage of rock, salt, sand, and black dirt. The proposed building complies with all ordinance requirements. •Sno Pac Food, 521 West Enterprise Drive, submitted a zoning application to construct a 40 by 80-foot building addition onto its existing plant to be located on the north side of the building, approximately 48 feet from Enterprise Drive. The proposal meets all ordinance requirements. •Griffith Management dba Miken Sports submitted a zoning application to construct a covered loading dock, which will be 260 square feet onto an existing building. No variances were required. •Elsie Vesterse, owner of Elsie’s Bar & Grill, 226 East Main Street, submitted a zoning application to erect a four-foot high fence on the west side of her property. Vesterse explained she wants to offer outside dining for her patrons during the summer months. She felt outdoor dining could help increase her restaurant business during the summer months, and plans to serve ice cream and other treats, along with her full menu for persons wishing to dine outside. The outdoor dining area would be approximately 650 square feet. City receives rebate The city received an Energy Conservation Reimbursement from Minnesota Energy for the energy conservation involved with the replacement of a portion of the heating system at the city’s auditorium. The new heating system is far more energy efficient than the old system, which resulted in a reimbursement of $1,033.
