Margaret Meyer
margaret-meyer_72.jpgMargaret M. Meyer, 85, of Waukon, Iowa, formerly of Dorchester, Iowa, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at her home in Waukon.

Margaret Minnie Meyer was born Aug. 19, 1923 in rural Dorchester, Iowa, the daughter of  Truman and Leona (Bulman) Wenig. She attended country school in the rural Dorchester area. Margaret was a housekeeper for Alvin Meyer and a caregiver to his children for several years. On Oct. 4, 1949 she married Alvin John Meyer at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They farmed together in Union City Township in rural Dorchester for many years. She and Alvin moved to Waukon in 1969. Margaret moved to Southridge Apartments in January of 2006. She was a member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ and its ladies aid. Margaret also served as historian for the Waukon Senior Citizen Club.

Survivors include her sons: Gordon (Cheryl) Meyer, North Little Rock, Ark.; and John (Kathleen) Meyer, Dorchester; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn (Milton) Staggemeyer of Eitzen, Minn.; and a son-in-law, Dennis (Jill) Lamport of Indianola, Iowa.

She is preceded in death by her husband Alvin who died in 1990; a daughter, Janice Lamport; a granddaughter, Deanne Lamport and three sisters, Nadine Fritz, Lorna Meiners and Donna Lou Fruechte.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 7, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, Eitzen, with Rev. Kent and Rev. Deb Meyer officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery. Friends may call one hour before services at the church on Sunday.
