Caledonia High School officially has an outdoor classroom.

On April 24, four guest speakers were at Robbie Sobczak’s second hour civics class for ninth graders. Thurman Tucker and John Fucksel from Quail Forever gave a short presentation on wildlife land management and stewardship. Michael and Pam Pagelkopf, meanwhile, showed maps with Minnesota’s wooded lands where school forests have been established and talked about the four biomes. The couple built the 30 donated field desks for the new outdoor classroom. The talk was cut short by a scheduled fire alarm, and so the guest speakers headed to see the new classroom and be part of a dedication.

Quail Forever speakers Thurman Tucker and John Fucksel (standing) shared that the U.S. has lost 2.9 billion quail over the past 50 years and how rural and ag land management can help build habitats that benefit quail, songbirds, pollinators and other wildlife.
